BENNETT’S CONTRACT WITH BIDDEFORD

CONTRACT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Bennett’s contract has been renewed nine times during his nine-year tenure. He was hired in July 2015. The most recent contract renewal is in effect until July 1, 2026.
  • The council has repeatedly extended and renewed Bennett’s contract each calendar year for an additional three years.
  • If the council chooses to terminate Bennett’s contract without cause, the city manager will end up with a hefty sum of cash and benefits. In the event of such termination, Bennett will be paid an aggregate lump-sum payment equal to six months aggregate salary.
  • Under the contract, Bennett shall be compensated for any vacation accrued to date of termination, The city will also have to pay Bennett any accrued and unpaid retirement benefits to time of termination; and shall provide health insurance coverage for six months from date, plus one month for each year for a maximum of 12 months.
  • Bennett’s current base salary is $170,000 annually, not including bonuses, other incentives or benefits.
  • Bennett is not required to live in the city but must live within reasonable commuting distance.
  • Bennett receives 25 vacation days per year and a monthly stipend for his personal automobile expenses.
